With the recent advances in sensing and communication technologies, a wealth of data is becoming available to monitor and analyze the mobility and the safety of surface transportation systems. Such data however becomes problematic in terms of storage and computational efficiency as transportation agencies are facing difficulties in integrating different sources of information with multiple resolution and communication frequencies.

To assist such agencies, TRANSMART has developed an integrated and real-time traffic performance monitoring, prediction and management tool that relies on multiple yet complementary sources of data. These sources may include:

1. Traffic detectors.

2. A network of cameras feeding real-time high-resolution videos.

3. Probe or Connected Automated Vehicles deployed in a complex highway environment.

The system serves first and foremost as data visualization tool to allow better traffic management strategies and ultimately prediction of incident formation and the associated efficient resource allocation.
